Okay, I'm calm. Here's the deal: iPhones with the latest firmware, 1.1.1, ARE NOT UNLOCKABLE. The Dev Team IS working on it though, they just got write access to the latest firmware, and chances are that they will have an unlock solution IN A FEW WEEKS. In order for the phones to funtion beyond turning on, at this point, they will need to be registed with AT+T.

I hope that you continue with your transaction because backing out of an eBay bid like that is a really scummy thing to do.

    Default Whatever you do...dont

I bought an iphone off ebay the other day, got it delivered and its locked. All was well as I have a mac and I never get automatic updates for itunes. However I used iNdependance to run jailbreak (the software that allows you to write files, and break free of ATT. However that runs on Itunes 7.4 I had 7.3, well i downloaded an upgrade (which you must NOT do find another source and download 7.4.1, because if you dont you will end up with the lates firmware which will put your iphone onto 1.1.1) and guess what, I now have an expensive paper weight.
I have tried everything on two computers, one mac, one windows to try and downgrade back to firmware 1.02. it can be done but the computer will not restore to allow jailbreak. Those unlucky ones like me that have a brick, will be waiting for the dev team to come up with a jailbreak compatable with 1.1.1. until then I can only fondel my iphone lovingly and imagine what it can do.
The irony of this story is that I live on a small island called Cyprus and if we had a carrier big enough to attract the iphone, I would not be out to hack my phone,I would gladly pay for the subscription. I was left with no choice.
Apple starting to look as greedy as Microsoft me thinks...birds of a feather!

admittedly it does prompt if you want to update your iphone firmware and you have to click yes before doing so. it doesn;t matter what version of itunes you're using as it checks online for the latest version before doing a restore.
looks like you weren't really paying attention to the prompts and went a bit trigger happy with your mouse during the itunes upgrade and just clicked accept on everythign that came up!
and i would have thought people would be careful when doing this considering all the posts and warnings of not to upgrade to 1.1.1!!
