I beg you help me BRICK phone!
Hello hackint0sh, please assist me through my plea as I am lossing my mind. Essentially, I'm not the greatest to touch the iPhone, but I fouled myself thinking even for a second that I "had it figured out."
When I originally purchased the phone it was in 1.4.4 firmware, and although I "believe" that it was faultlessly activated (due to full activity of the phone excluding the "no SIM" part,) I began to read, and read about unlocking my phone with T-mobile. It is a an 8gig, and it's not the 3G version so my first impression was that maybe I should youtube videos and read guides on how to unlock the 1.4.4 firmware iPhone. So I downloaded "ZiPhone" and began following the listed steps. It did not work, the reason was very abstract and is the whole basis of this "brick evolutionary" dilemma. ITUNES WOULD NOT LET ME RESET. I got all sorts of errors, typically the # ones. It was 13, 2000+ 1000+, I'm sure you're all familiar.
So I kept digging, and digging through the posts only to fail to see why it kept doing this. I would try absolutely everything, and would keep freezing on the "Apple USB Cable+ iTunes icon in the middle of the screen" part. I didn't know what to do. I thought I broke it. iTunes keeps demanding for me to reset my phone because it's in "recovery" yet it gives me these errors and doesn't do Jack. Finally, I've uncovered the phone mode on Ziphone and somehow ended up changing it to "Normal," twice!!
Back to the basics, I would basically have an iTouch, no sim card installed, meaning it wasn't unlocked. I still kept and still keep getting these iTunes errors that don't let me reset my phone and now completely ruined my chances and really tore apart my already painful day.
Friend of mine said, oh just upgrade it to latest firmware which is 2.2.1 or whatever.. The latest one as of TODAY let's say. Then he said use qckpwn. I figured it might do the trick so I listened to him. To my surprise I didn't get an error while downloading the software and soon I had a loading bar on my iPhone. At about 3/4 of the bar I get an error, again some shady number. I've noticed that my phone kept loading so I thought I should just disregard it, and left for work. Come back hours later, the phone didn't even restart. Still on that full loaded bar or whatever it was (figured it's the new firmware, yeah?) So I try restarting the phone and it goes back into that usp cable picture nonsense and won't do anything. I keep getting error 13's on reset, phone won't reset. When not connected to the cable it just keeps resetting. When I experiment in desperate hopes of fixing it, I often find it frozen on the apple logo. Absolutely nothing works. I can't reset it to manufacture settings, I keep either getting error 13 or 2003. Honestly, at this point it won't even read my Apple cable, I would have to switch ports and wait a few seconds. I restarted my PC a billion times, and I've went from iTunes 7.5 to current, back to 7.5 and to current a thousand times. I've read everything that could possibly have me emit to this outcome and nothing seems to help. Google is filled with results, and absolutely nothing works...
YET I FEEL LIKE I'M JUST BEING RETARDED.
I even tried downloading all this stuff like "ibrickr" and "En__ZiPhone_patched_by_kIREmK_04.05.04_G" in hope that I could maybe downgrade my iPhone back to 1.4.4 since I'm guessing THE REASON it doesn't turn on is because it didn't get to reset and that new firmware somehow messed with the old one? Not sure, but I'm probably in the right galaxy of thoughts.
Please help me. What should I do? I'm in a crisis, going to the apple store with an iPhone that has more "warranty voided" 3rd party programs than a customized iPod nano is out of the question. I feel like the brick isn't vital, and there's a fix out there. Someone has to know the methods, and I beg you guys. Please, let me know. I would watch this topic like a hawk and reply with faster reactions than a cheetah (that's after I wake up and come back from classes.)
Please, I've included so much information I could probably send this as a college essay and get admitted without any hesitation.
I fear that the longevity of this topic will repel anyone's will to assist me on this issue, but please just try to skim, I really need your help, I am absolutely incoherent and incompetent in this situation...
This was like a therapist session, I feel a different person now.
Hard to read all this long story.
OK, here you go:
Make sure to have iTunes 8.0.2 up and running on your PC/Mac, start it.
Connect the iPhone and just hit "Restore" This should bring your iPhone to Apple stock firmware 2.2.1 - locked.
Use one of the Tutorials to jailbreak/activate/unlock then:

if u end up with an error, then maybe u should try DFU mode. To enter this mode, connect ur iPhone to ur computer and turn the iPhone off. Then hold the home button+power/sleep for exactly 10 seconds, now release the sleep button but keep on holding the home button till itunes start panicing about iPhone in restore mode, the iPhone's screen should be completely black, no itunes logo or cable, just black as if it is off. Now restore to 2.2.1 and use one of the guides that volkpost mentioned to unlock/activate/jailbreak.
Cheers and goodluck
