I have the ringtones tab in iTunes 7.4, firmware 1.0.2

and good to know about the convert to AAC, that works

and, now that I know the preference, in future I can import CD's as mp3's instead of m4a's...

only part not working, is after creating a m4a from an mp3, and changing the extension to m4r and putting the file into a folder called ringtones, that I had to create, in the iTunes music folder..

I cannot see any ringtones after importing, dropping.. adding to library.. nope..

So does this still work with the new iTunes update 7.4.1?

Apparently not at first glance, but if you change the extensions back to .m4a, it does.

It works. Just change the extension back to m4a and you can sync your ringtones.
Is Apple going to make a game of this??

Several people have asked if there is a way to remove ringtones from the Library yet.

Does anyone know where iTunes stores the info about the ringtones it is supposed to have installed? I have deleted them before I realized they were working, so I now have 16 broken files (when I sync to the phone it complains about 16 ringtones it can't find) and I can't locate where iTunes stores which files are ringtones.

I've tried to locate this (find ~/Library -print0 | xargs -0 grep 'filename-of-a-ringtone') with no luck either.

I ktraced and didn't see where it accessed them either.

Anyone have any insight? Or suggestions?

I think it will be solved when the new Ringtone Folder will show up in iTunes - I suspect you will be able to delete from there (which is probably why you can't now as the Folder is not visible).

It should be turned on this coming week.
