    Default how to use system restore

    ok guys,
    sorry i'm a bit slow when it comes to iphone updates.
    i've a iphone 3g. still on version 2.2.1 or something.
    i've been in and downloaded the version i want
    for 3.1.2 (as this is what i need for ps3 hack) AND ive downloaded old version of itunes 7.7 or something......

    when i connect my iphone to laptop how do i incorporate the downloaded 3.1.2 above or is it automatic.....do i need to be offline or anything.......

    any help greatly appreciated

    Do you want to be able to go back to 2.2.1 afterwards?

    If the answer to the above question is no.

    Windows: shift-click "update" button in iTunes. Browse to the 3.1.2 IPSW and select it.
    Mac: option-click "update" button in iTunes. Browse to the 3.1.2 IPSW and select it.

    If you answer yes to question above. Then use either:

    Pwnagetool or Preventing baseband update as a last-ditch effort [iPhone Dev Team] to prevent baseband being upgraded.

    In future if you're planning on downgrading try backing up your ECID via Cydia's SHSH service. It makes life a lot easier.
