Weirdness... I just switched from the internet2 APN to the wap APN (no proxy or anything) and it Just Works. What's more, my EDGE speed went from 30-40kpbps to about 100kbps (same exact location/signal strength/etc., Upper West Side Manhattan NYC).

Edit: Never mind, I think it's just intermittent. Seems to change every time I run it.

So whats the final verdict if you are using the $29.99 plan for T-Mobile?

Currently, I have APN set to internet2.voicestream.com

My internet and youtube works fine. But should I have something else set as the APN? Maybe something that will increase the speed?

Do you remember the name of the utility?

Do you know if I need a username/password to connect to their WiFi network (I have Total Internet)? As I said, I can't get onto "my tmobile" (T-mobile tech support is aware of the issue), so if username/password are configured there, I'm screwed.

    Thanks!

I will get back to you with the name of the app, don't remember it off hand. It was just added yesterday or the day before.

By default, the T-Mobile HotSpots username is your phone number, don't know about the password (most likely what you use to log into your T-Mobile account on their website).

opps, I did have it. It's "Devicescape Connect". Haven't tested it fully yet, but it seems to allow you to auto-login to WiFi networks (prob hotspot type of networks)

@sxt173: thanks for the info on "Devicescape Connect" - I'll give it a try.

BTW, after signing up for a $29.99 voice plan with T-mobile, then adding the $19.99 data plan (which was showing as $29.99 on their website the other day), and a $4.99 Text Messaging package, I see that T-mobile has changed their Internet packages again:

They have "T-Mobile Total Internet" for $39.99, and "T-Mobile Total Internet for Data Cards" for $49.99. I'm not quite sure what a "Data Card" is meant to be.

Both of these packages may be good for someone who rarely uses voice (and doesn't want the separate voice plan). They don't have voice minutes included, but allows for voice at 20 cents/minute. It does have 300 text messages included.

Maybe I'm mis-interpreting this, but it looks like the $39.99 plan would get me everything I wanted (mostly internet, plus some text and the ability to have voice calls). I ended up paying $29.99+$19.99+$4.99 (=$54.97) to get this with a standard voice plan.

Too late for me to change now, I assume, but others may be interested.

The $19.99 plan is an add-on if you have voice already. Just be careful which on e you pick, because they also have a 19.99 Total Internet HotSpot add-on which is hotspots only for some odd reason.
I have the 29.99 voice plan (includes certain # of minutes, sms's etc.) + the 19.99 Total Internet. It seems from other threads thats ome people are able to add proxy settings to their phone and use the 5.99 T-MobileWeb add-on. I will wait till this method is fully tested/functional with all iPhone functions before trying it out.
