The $19.99 is an add-on to an existing voice plan. The $39.99 (+.20/minute) is standalone - no voice plan. Search for the BlackBerry Plans.

    Hi -

I've just signed up for the Total Internet ($19.99) package.

I've seen lots of stuff on how to configure for the various T-mobile ($5.99, $19.99, etc) packages, and I'm a bit confused.

I *think* I need to set APN to "internet2.voicestream.com", and username/password to blank. I also think that I do *not* need to edit a proxy file (that's only needed for the $5.99 plan, right?)

So far, it's not working. The phone tells me that I'm not subscribed to EDGE. If I dial "*3001#12345#*" (field test mode), and check "PDP Information->pdp 0", it says that my address is "0.0.0.0" (meaning: it didn't work, I assume).

Please let me know if I've got things configured correctly. Again, this is specifically for the $19.99 "Total Internet" package - I'm pretty sure the $5.99 plan is different.

    Thanks!

    - Paulb

OK, I figured it out ("Total Internet" setup)

I need to set the APN to "internet3.voicestream.com" (and username/password to blank/empty). NO proxy settings are required.

(other posts made me believe that I should use "internet2.", but it should be "internet3." - at least that's what works for the $19.99 "Total Internet" I signed up for last night).

Web, email, youtube, stocks, weather are all working (of course, slower than when I use a WiFi hotspot). I don't know if there's any other 'feature' of the iPhone that I haven't tested (which may not work because of port blocking/etc).

BTW: T-mobile's web page still shows $29/month for "Total Internet". If you call them on the phone, it's $19.99/month. The web page also says a 2-year commitment is required (both for normal phone plans and data packages). It's only 1 year if you talk to them on the phone.

Your configuration sounds correct for the Total Internet package. You may have to give it up to 24 hours before you are provisioned though.

Edit: Weird, internet3 is supposed to be for the VPN plan. But who knows, T-Mobile has changed what they call these plans so many times now...

I used wap.voicestream.com and it worked fine with the 19.99 plan.

I tried "wap.voicestream.com". It seemed to 'try' to work (I didn't get the "you don't have EDGE" error message), but going to websites in Safari would just 'hang' and eventually timeout.

"internet2.voicestream.com" gave me an immediate "you are not subscribed to EDGE" message.

"internet3.voicestream.com" is the only one that worked for me.

I wonder if they accidentally gave me the VPN plan, or if they just use "internet2" and "internet3" as a way to spread-out their server usage?

I'd check with "my-tmobile.com", but there seems to be a problem with their servers - I can't register for an account (it says that it has sent me an SMS with my password, but I never receive it (even though I receive other SMS messages)).

Edit: iphonenetworktest.com tells me I'm getting 47.8kbps (doesn't seem too great).

Total Internet also provides global free access to all T-Mobile Hotspots and partner hotspots. The 5.99 plan is a bit slower and does not offer access to hotpots.

The hotpot access in conjunction with the new tool I saw on installer.app for auto-logging into WiFi hotspots is ideal.

After a quick look, I don't see anything in Installer that sounds like what you describe.

Do you remember the name of the utility?

Do you know if I need a username/password to connect to their WiFi network (I have Total Internet)? As I said, I can't get onto "my tmobile" (T-mobile tech support is aware of the issue), so if username/password are configured there, I'm screwed.

    Thanks!

    - Paulb
