[HOW TO] Tethering 3.1.2
This is a guide to enable tethering on your iphone. First this is not static guide. I will be modifying it as I get more feedback. Follow me twitter.com/ViciousMangina and use #tether when posting. I will field question their and post them here if i feel they are important enough. I have performed this hack twice and while this tut is long its the only way to get it to work without paying* (Mywi app was involved)
Prereqs:
1. Your phone must be jailbroken.
2. you must have cydia installed with all updates.
Here we go:
1. On cydia, install mywi (10 day trial) along with rockapp and extensions.
2. Launch rockapp, update mywi for 3.1.2 (registering is required but not a big deal). then restart phone.
3. Here is the important part. In order to keep native tethering in the setting menu without paying for mywi you must inject a ipcc
4. close itunes and unplug phone.
Mac: open terminal and type "defaults write com.apple.iTunes carrier-testing -bool TRUE" without quotes. should not get a response just a return carriage
Windows: open cmd and type "C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe" /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1" without quotes
5. Open itunes and plug in phone. download the ipcc for your carrier below.
6.Hold option/alt and hit update. dialogue box appears and select ipcc file.
7. Restart iphone and tethering should be enabled in setting menu under general > network.
Now for the cleanup. This is important to keep this feature.
1. Uninstall rockapp, rockapp extension, and mywi off your iphone through cydia.
Carrier Files: this list will grow as I get more ipcc sent to me. So send your IPCC files to daniel.vcardenas@me.com so i can edit and repost here for everyone else. IF IT WORKS PLEASE EMAIL SO I CAN "VERIFY" IT.

FAQs:
Is rockapp necessary?
yes, it seems that its extension somehow enable the toggle switch.
Will I loose MMS?
no, and if you do look at next question
Will itunes ask me to revert to original ipcc?
yes, but verified that will not hinder tethering as the ipcc was only necessary to add settings not enable it (rockapp part did that)
Will this hack work with unlocked iPhones?
Yes and no, as long as you manage to get on the internet before hand then this will work (meaning you have the correct apns in place) if you cant then this hack will only display "set up tethering"
I have an unlocked iPhone so thereofore I dont have an ipcc file.
Just email me your carrier and country and I'll TRY to craft you a file but keep in mind this is very difficult as I don't have your phone in front of me and you might loose some functionality when performing this hack.
WTF this is movistar carrier file!!!
Correct, unfortunately without the patched binary, iphone will only accept a signed carrier file. Once your done, plug in your phone and reinstall YOUR carrier ipcc and the hack should still be there. the carrier plist acts as a vehicle only not a replacment. Im to lazy to change all the names so just use it if you want.
Any question post through twitter address above or here ( will only be checking forums when I need to update guide, twitter i check constantly on my phone)

Not what I was looking for
I thought it was initially said that this would not require JAILBREAK???

i cannot find carrier support on my mac?

I can't see how this is going to work... You are only adding the network id on the SupportedSIMs on the carrier.plist of the telefonica_es bundle. The APNs will all be wrong
I will wait for more info before jumping on 3.1.2, because i'm no willing to risk my current tethering and prefer to wait before spending 10 bucks on Mywi

you dont need to be on 3.1.2 and if you have tethering stay where you at. also my method will avoid paying. and while i uses the telefonica carrier file I use the ipcc you send me to get the other setting correct. accounting for the 4kb increase

FYI, I used the ipcc i was using in 3.0 and tethering works fine (with mywi installed of course) so I'm not sure you need "special 3.1.2 ipcc".

correct the ipcc is only required for 3.0 and above and but mywi will expire unless you buy it

Hi and thank you for your great work!
Will this hack work for unsupported carriers? I have an ipcc that enabled tethering on 3.0, will it work?
