Default How to tell if iPhone is blocked/stolen.

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this. I know this sounds a bit sketchy but I hope someone can help me out.

I have a friend who works in a phone shop and does repairs and unlocks. When it comes to iPhones he knows nothing however. He is often offered iPhones for sale but he is hesitant to buy them incase they are stolen/blocked.

What error does the iPhone show when a phone ha been blocked? Also if it has indeed be stolen is there a way to get it to work with unlocking or jailbreaking, or is it simply an iPod touch from then on?

I'm not really concerned with unlocking them from being blocked however if anyone could tell me how to tell if the phone is indeed stolen I would appreciate it. Today he was offered an iPhone that showed 'sim failed' is this a stolen message or a sim locked message?

    Thanks for any help!

i think that sim failed is just the phone saying that the sim is screwed up or something but i might be wrong.... as far as knowing if the phone is blocked from the network.... put a carrier sim in it and if it works then its not blocked or it just wouldnt work if it was blocked... hope this helps some
