I am not seeing the option in gmail settings, is this for USA users only?
edit: seems like it, just setup an account with US details and the options there!!!

Can anyone tell me why it says I have 11,000 e-mails total, with 6,152 unread, when I set up IMAP? Am I really going to have to manually delete over 6,000 e-mails? This is more of a pain in the butt than POP Gmail!
What is the benefit of this, instead of just using the regular setup?
I just followed this instructions and eveything worked fine for me.
For those who had the same problem as me with thousands of e-mails to open and delete, a simple solution is here!
Just select all your GMail mails online, and click the "Archive" button. It will move all your e-mail to an archive, and voila! No more iPhone issue.
I dont get this IMAP thing. I deleted some messages via my phone but when i log into my account, i still see them in my inbox! There is a label in front of it in the inbox that says "Deleted messages". Why does Gmail not just delete it like i instructed it to do via the iphone?
Update: Well it seems to be working now. I deleted some stuff and it disappeared in my Gmail acct too!

Rocking a 4GB unlocked iphone on T-mobile with firmware 2.1.
how can I "open up the port in my firewall????"
Everything is working except for one thing. If Idelete an email from trash o my iphone, it doesn't delete that email from my web gmail trash. I did do the following,
'Deleted Mailbox' > 'On the Server' > '[Gmail] Trash'
iPhone (OTB 1.1.1 / Currently 3.1)
Unlock, activation, jailbreak: PwnageTool 3.1
