Lightbulb How to Set Iphone`s Name for Bluetooth?

    Hi Iphone-Friends,

does somebody know where or how to set the IPhone`s Name for Bluetooth?
As my IPhone was working fine with my Car`s Bluetooth and showed the"MyNames IPhone" as Telephone Name - but now (i don`t know why)my
Bluetooth Display shows "localhost" as Iphone`s Name.
Very Funny - as everyhting works fine.

Does someone know how to change these Name?

    Thanks
    Laureon

Try to rename iPhone in iTunes. Just clik on the phone's name and change it.

This is the second such thread that I've read about this topic and Vger's suggestion is ithe same as in the previous thread.

Unhappily, what he suggests is not correct, or at least this is my experience with bluetooth. Assuming that you change the name of your iPhone via iTunes and then restore, the bluetooth keeps the orginial name (this is the behavour under MacOX).

Since I've been working on other things and since Bluetooth isn't that useful in its present state with the exception of the more obvious uses -- a wireless headset -- I've been postponing looking at this one. Clearly, a full restore sets the phone to zero, whereby erasing all parms.. Therefore the only valid device that could be restoring sany settings is your PC/MacOX (nearly sure that you're a Mac person since a PC probably wouldn't do this). Since I'm 100% Mac, I can't really say if it's the same with PCs, but with Mac, changing your "hostname" in iTunes does not result in your bluetooth "hostname" changing unless, of course, I have a serious configuration problem on my Mac or have had one too many glasses of wine recently.

Perhaps the key is simply to delete all references to your iPhone in the bluetooth configuration tool, change the name in iTunes. Reload the phone. And then re-establish a bluetooth connection with your Mac and see if this doesn't change something.

Very interesting question and look forward to anyone else's input.

I think the problem is somehow caused by SSH. Try to change your name in iTunes and login to SSH and logout or login and logout first and then try to change your name. It should work. Try turning bleutooth off when doing this.

I had this problem last week, but since doing a full restore my car kit now displays my iTunes name and I've done all the same hacks as before!!!

It may be that it doesn't work for everyone, but I have just this second changed the bluetooth name of my iPhone using the iTunes rename method just to make sure.....

    worked fine for me.
