Default How much is the 16GB iPhone if I were to walk into an apple store (I am from Canada)

I am from Canada, so I was wondering if I went into an apple store, could I just buy a 16GB iPhone for $499? without any contract with AT&T? Or how much would it be?

That would be $499 and add sales tax depending on what state you buy it in. You can buy up to 5 iphones and can just take them with you without activating them but only at the Apple Store. The AT&T store will not let you leave the store without activating it first.

So is the phone cheaper if you sign up for 3 years?

If you purchase the phones you can aticvate them under the prepaid plan so you wont have the contract to deal with. Simply enter 111-14-1111 in the ssn window and you fail and then you are givin the options of prepaid plans.

Also it is not cheaper to do a 3 year contract.

I think that statement is AT&T Store dependent. All 5 of my iPhones were bought from an AT&T store (and one from Apple direct) - and not a single one purchased in an AT&T store was activated in the store - nor was it a requirement.

Also - later in this thread - some folks are comparing prices of the AT&T pre-pay vs. post-pay plan. I have both - and find that the post-pay (contract plan) is a better value comparing minutes/features - HOWEVER - you have a TWO year (NOT THREE YEAR!!??!!) contract, where the "GoPhone" (pre-pay) can be canceled without penalty.

    HTH.
