Will any file do? How do i go about corrupting a file? Am i correct in assuming this will make my iPhone not turn on anymore? Or will it turn on with an error? Sorry for being so clueless. Thanks alot.

Visual signs of tampering? You did a HW hack?

If not, restore the iPhone using iTunes. Do not upgrade it, just restore to it's factory settings. Put the old AT&T card in it.

Get your receipt and your phone and head over to a different store. They sound like they know you there now. Tell the Genius you have a dead strip problem and you took Apple.com's advice and reset it to factory settings. He'll plug it in, see the problem, check the serial numbers and then replace it.

    Do.

    Not.

    Mention.

    Any.

    Software.

    Hack.

That's how I got mine replaced. And I'm in Canada.
Can I sync my iPhone to my Newton?

It was not a HW hack.
The problem with bringing back into the store is that at the activation screen or the emergency keypad, the part of the screen that is defective is not used. The only way for me to prove that there is a problem is to activate the phone. Activation by hacking is obvious (since i don't have an ATT phone number). So the only way to prove my problem is to actually setup an account with ATT.

    just make a restore,
say them you havenīt activate it yet, cause it should be a gift.

but you want to try to turn it on before
and you recognized some touch issues...

that should work, put the original att sim inthere!

The problem is my touch screen issues are nowhere to be found at the activation screens. There are no buttons in the affected area, making it impossible for anyone to find any problems with it being unactivated.

Should i just unplug my iPhone during the restore process in iTunes?

what if you do the slide for emergency call? You'll get the keypad I believe. That should offer more area covered to prove touch issue.

edit: oops, pendalf beat me to it.
