Im very new to all these stuff. I have the tmobile tzones 5.99 plan. Is that what i need to use safari, maps, youtube, ect..?

When I tried to use safari, maps, and youtube, it said cannot connect to edge, im not subcribed to edge. What is EDGE? I see an "E" icon next to "tmobile" at the very top of the screen. Is the "E" stand for EDGE?
