I've been trying to figure this out for a while now. I'm thinking of developing an app that can add music to the ipod library directly off of it instead of having to run through the computer. Anyway, does anybody have a clue how iTunes does it? I know it's not as simple as just copying the music file, but goes a bit more complex as to needing to encode the entry into the library file, then name it correctly and put it in the right folder.

There are Cydia tweaks that can do this. Gremlin for example is used by Celeste to allow adding of music to the iPod library directly.

Thanks for the reply! Any idea where to find the headers for that library so I can use it in xcode?

as far as I know, the Gremlin library is not yet available for other Cydia tweaks to link against.
