    Arrow How do you Image filesystem partition without SSH

    Hi,
    Currently with my iPhones I backup the filesystem before I do anything else (i dont want to use itunes).

    The method I use is to jailbreak, install SSH / BSD and create a node using ssh. I then use iPhuc to get the image off.

    I recently jailbroke an otb 1.1.2 and notice part of the process involved in the 1.1.2 jailbrake actually dumps the filesystem without using SSH at all, but removes it after the process completes

    Anyone know how it does this? Would save me a lot of messing about! I have tried looking through the source but I dont understand java, and I'm having a hard time following the process!!

    Thanks

    Well basically I do the following;

    - Jailbreak
    - Install SSH and BSD
    - Use SSH and run the command "mknod /var/root/Media/rdisk0s1 c 14 1"
    - Connect to pc and in iPhuc use the command "getfile rdisk0s1 iphone_sys_dump 314572800"
    - System backup created in iphuc root directory

    As I said, this method is fine, but the latest jailbreak app actually gets the same image from the iphone without messing about with wireless stuff. I could then knock together a single batch file to create the node and get the file off all in one over usb.

    Someone must know!

    yea this is a great way to do it.... just be soo great to do it all automatic...

    now what you said about how 112JB creates the node, thats not true
    you have to run OKtoPrep and that makes the node, bcuz ive looked it up and all the oktoprep is is mknod and a script leading to var/root/Media/disk

    as far the info on the backup itself, have you found it in the .jar file in the jailbreak folder?
