    Default how to disable GPRS/EDGE

    hi

i unlocked my iPhone some days ago, deleted the APN/Username/passwort (all blank now) so it wont connect to the internet via GPRS/EDGE.

now i've been outside, with no WiFi only the "E" entered a word in google, and the site did load

holly macarooni, how the hell is it able to connect to GPRS even without the APN/etc?

    i use Sunrise (switzerland).

and is there another way to disable it better?

I'm not completely sure, but I also tried a Sunrise sim. And even if the settings were still the att ones, it was working fine with Edge. So there 2 possibilities in my point of view. Either the sim contains the apn and login that bypass phone settings, or edge doesn't need such information (only gprs). Maybe someone with more knowledge about edge could explain.

called again, asking why that is so, and wheter it is a "bug in the system".

they said, no their servers are configured that everything will work, cause people tend to set up the settings for them self and often mix up the things so it would work, therefor they made it that no matter what you input, everything works.
well may be good for those loosers who dont know what an APN/Username/PW they have to fill in, but for those like us who want to have controll over the settings, fuck sunrise.

oh and now the very best:
he adviced that i should get the "unlimited gprs data" for 49CHF/m so i dont have to worry about the costs anymore when i'm going in the net via GPRS. WTF!!!

so, now i called those swisscom guys, had a lovely girl, with an accent that sounded really lovely ("daanga uund uf widaarhöra", so damn lovely), but swisscom even sucks more, they have unlimmited data for 79CHF/m

(oh when the girl heard that i have an iPhone she was really excited cause she wanted one too, i should have asked her for a date )

    edit:
those call center gonna hate me i call quite often asking some question about SMS delivery (get the status on sunrise with adding "# "in front of every SMS), GPRS (will work with every setting!), and iPhone availability (some are sure swisscom'll get it, some say orange, some say sunrise, some dont know, two didnt even know what an iPhone is, WTF where you living?), and other stuff. i often use different names
    i love those free numbers
