Default Hidden Edge sttings? - unexpected charges on my bill

My last phone bill showed i had been accessing data via edge(i did not recall doing this), and charged me accordingly.

As i dont use edge, i removed all my edge settings so it could not connect.

I had my new bill today and it showed i had used edge again (55 for one day U.K !!!)

Thing is it had been accessing every minute, without my say so!

I cheched my edge settings and they were still blank.

I did a retore with itunes recently and i think it restores your edge settings but does not show them on your menu. This is the reason my phone was able to still connect.

    So beware.

Solution: Enter dummy values for all three fields and it will show an error when attempting to connect to EDGE

Putting dummy settings makes no difference. it still manages to connect.

let me guess: you are using o2 as your acrrier but with a non-apple-contract e.g. prepaid or other plan

if so, your iphone uses the o2 settings, not the unknown ones. thats cause the MCC/MNC match (same carrier). it uses the carrier.plist inside o2_UK, that probably has apn assignes but does not allow you to set the apn, cause for "apple-known" carriers the AllowEDGEEditing-value is missing in this carrier.plist.
open that one and change the values for apn.

way easier would be - if you dont wanna use EDGE at all - to install Boss Prefs from the installer. it will give you the option to completely disable edge.

I have an OTB 1.1.2 upgraded to 1.1.3 and unlocked with ziphone. I use an O2 pay as you go and downloaded an editied version of the plist so I can connect to gprs, it sometimes shows the edge icon but it does not seem to be on edge speeds. Anyway.... it does not eat up my money like this guy, if he was on pay as you go he wouldn't get a bill would he?
