I feel like im so close! thanks for all the help...im gonna search and try to figure it out....and yes both buttons worked properly

you can leave the device plug in while attempting to put it in DFU mode. Your timing sequence is probably off. It's not very hard to put it in DFU

Im having a hard time putting it into dfu mode because the phone only shuts off once every ten minutes for a second. It wont shut off or restart when im holding both buttons.

ok so i can get it into dfu now 100% of the time when it shuts off and goes to reboot. so my timings not that off. but i can only do that when its not connected. when its connected to pc it wont do it. and if i try connecting it from dfu mode then the apple logo comes back.

Then it's not in DFU mode.

It is IMPOSSIBLE to enter DFU mode without the phone detecting external power via the dock connector (it doesn't matter if the phone is connected via USB to a computer or an official apple charger, these both should work)

I've tested this on a working phone - you can enter DFU mode with the phone connected to an apple charger, then if you disconnect external power - it will stay in DFU (as long as the battery has charge) and you can then connect it to a computer (which will detect it as being in DFU)

This specific procedure seems to work better for some devices where they have been unable to get into DFU mode otherwise.

Only if one of the buttons was broken. Or if the battery life was very low.
