Shipping it to Apple is probably cheaper than driving 2000km even if your gas is a lot cheaper than ours.
Either one would be a better deal than staring at a brick that is supposed to be an iPhone.
It's defective. You need to exchange it.

I doubt that Apple would repair it since he doesn't live in the US.

Have you tried to drain the battery completely (not turning it off at all when the Apple appears)? Do this, wait a day and try again the recovery method using iTunes. If this doesn't work, I'm afraid you need to have it repaired.

plug it into itunes on a mac (after updating itunes to the latest of course), then hold power and home buttons for about 20 seconds - don't let go of them for any reason until you see the big ! connect to itunes logo. make sure it is plugged into itunes - and don't disconnect it for any reason until it says to. don't try and pull the battery out :p

I had EXACTLY the same problem with an iphone. Turned it on for the first time, and frozed in apple logo. Never saw the activation screen nor anything. how I solved it? by taking it to apple. they replaced it for a brand new one in a sec. it's not a common problem, but happens. sorry mate, but the only solution is to replace it at an apple store. good luck.

    hello iphone buddies

if there is problem in restore just change the USB port and try to restore again. Apple has already released ways to deal the problem. Check apple also sometimes
