Are you positive on this? I mean, have you tested it yourself, or do you have a reliable source?

I can't seem to find a confirmation on this.

This is odd, since the UK version of the phone was running 1.1.1 and I doubt that Apple cut two different FM 1.1.1 versions. I assume that Int'l support is be there, it's just that you have a model of the phone that -- during the upgrade -- didn't require copying this support? Again, this is only a guess but I assume that to account for the 40Mb size difference between 1.0.2 and 1.1.1 that this is in there, but that your phone didn't install it.

This opens up a very interesting point, assuming that it IS there, what variable(s) is the iPhone looking for to determine whether the Int'll support should be added or not? Is it Model num, IMEI range, etc..

I dont know if anyone noticed but on the iPhone presented in London the model number was something like MA***UK. Where on US phones is only MA***. This could be the reason.

Indeed , most users of the original iphone will not need international support .

I noticed and I assume that it could very well be this, however it's not very Apple of them to exclude Int'll language support on US phones, especially when you consider how many of their customers in the US don't have English as their mother tongue. It's for this reason that it's quite possible that it's there, but not accessible. Assuming that 1.1.2 will be released very soon to fix issues that Apple has discovered with unmodified iPhones, perhaps it will be a selectable option in 1.1.3 just before the release of the UK phone?
