I'm also having the same trouble as torontogosh, I can get it to work on my home network and home WLAN but not outside the network or on edge.
I'm also using an airport basestation, i'm guessing theres a trick to configuring this that we haven't yet figured out...

Did you use DynDNS updater on your Mac (the one with eyetv, that is port-forwarded)
If so, use the 2.0 beta. Below find a link and an english setup-help. that should do the trick
DynDNS Updater Download
http://cdn.dyndns.com/DynDNS_Updater_2.0rc1.dmg
DynDNS Updater Manual
http://www.dyndns.com/support/client...c.html#set-wiz
You have to fill the account-info you setup at dyndns.org into that software according to the manual.
let me know if this works for you

so port forwarding works now! this should work then over wifi aswell. try to check if your (assigned) IP (the XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX) you just typed matches the one that dyndns on their site is assigning right now. if not, your local dyndns updater is not configured properly.

Trouble on a University Network
I'm having a little trouble with this, it could be due to the fact that I am on a school network (ie no control over port forwarding on routers). I opened port 2170 and did everything else as instructed. I'm pretty sure my problem is in how I set up the Dyndns account. Can someone post a quick, thorough how to on that? I wasn't exactly sure what I was doing. Thanks!
PS... I'm not network savvy at all. So please phrase all responses as if you were talking to a 6 year-old

I have been trying to get this to work without success. One question. I have an RCM DCM305 cable modem. Do I need to do anything concerning port routing in the cable modem or only on my router?

I have been trying to get this to work, but it seems that when I try to go to the url that I set up, I end up at the logon screen for configuring my Linksys WRT54G router. What am I doing wrong. I have a DCM305 cable modem

Hi dvfrog!
No problem at all. Without control over the router you wont be able to use this via internet. the reason is that the internet "does not see" your mac. the internet is just communicating with the router of your school network. the router then passes requests to the macs inside the school network.
the only thing you are able to do is provide anyone inside your school network with the movies in just giving the ip number of your mac to them. ip is to be found on oyur mac in system preferences->network->TCP/IP. for example if ths would be 192.168.1.201(your-ip-no) anyone inside the school network can wi-fi-access your library with http://192.168.1.201:2170/eyetv/ from any iphone (or mac using safari 3)
if you had control over the router you would "forward" the eyetv-mac-service through the router. the router is connected to the internet and gets one ip-number from the school's internet provider. so the router is kind of a traffic manager between tje whole internet and all its users and all the users inside your school network. internet-users can only access services provided by the router (what is a computer aswell). they cant even "see" computers, printers etc inside the network. port-forwarding is a technique to move a service (from your mac inside the local network) to the router so the world can see it. for doing so, the router admin has to "allow" that service. usually they dont ...
hope that helps

The problem is probably caused by your router. the router has built in dyndns support, so you dont need the software client DNS updater. BUT: WRT54G Linksys Router with firmware <=1.42.3 caused so much traffic at Dyndns that they stopped the service for that router/firmware. Get actual firmware >=1.42.3 (get the latest for your model) for your WRT54G Linksys Router and it should work. the porblem was reportet 2-3 years ago but popps up again every now and then.
