Default Greetings from Tokyo...but no service on my iPhone.

Just arrived in Tokyo and was surprised to discover that my phone is showing "no service." I travel quite a bit and have never run into this problem before and I have Int'l service. My phone is running 1.1.4 and was jailbroken/activated using Ziphone. What's happening?

Japan Only has 3g and 4g phones, they have phased out all gsm towers, so you can't even roam. This is why to sell iphones in japan apple must bring out a 3g iphone or convince docomo to bring back gsm/edge just for apple.

My guess is a 3g iphone will come out before japan changes its towers

Exactly what I thought! Thanks for the confirmation -- only 6 days to go and a 12 hour plane ride back to being able to re-use my iphone.

you may find you can't even use wifi, I have heard all of japan uses only channel 13 or something, and I don't know if the iphone can use it! maybe you can tell us!

At least you still have your music!!
