Thanks to all the hackers who made it possible to access the file system. This is awesome! Someday we'll have real app development on the iPhone. I moved a couple of ringtones and now I'm not embarassed when my iPhone rings.
Now I'm greedy. I saw sometime back that someone moved the Safari icon from the bottom to the main screen. Can someone tell me which files/folders control the hierarchy. I'd like to switch the iPod and Calendar icons.
Thanks,
Phredd
EDIT: Since this is barely about the buttons anymore, I started a new thread. Everyone, if you have a question, please start a new thread instead of hijacking someone else's thread.

Can you use Mp3 songs as ringtones?

Can you please let me know how you did the ringtones? Is there a URL you can share?

Yes, you can use mp3s as ringtones.... my guess would be anything that itunes can play you can use... but I haven't tested that...
Edit: Update: You can even use m4p files that you've purchased. I have yet to try and put .m4p files that my computer is not authorized for....

For moving icons I got some notes from one of the guys in chat who did this:
Easy to do. Just go into "System/Library/CoreServices/Springboard.app/" and modify the "DisplayOrder.plist" that is all. Then you can add your own icon within the "/Application/FieldTest" folder.

There is an image of what he did, this shows the field test menu as having its own icon and being located on the springbroard in the last row.
Don't ask me how to do this yet, those are all the notes I have. I'll get around to screenshotting this mod next.

I have Windows Vista.
I followed all the instructions for the windows version (http://cre.ations.net/blog/post/20) and everything seemed to go ok but now I can't add ringtones, they do not appear on my phone.
I keep getting
fileref: 0
then it goes back to
iPhone:/#
Any ideas?

switch to mac... but short of that, run it as administrator... right mouse click and do run as administrator... then authenticate... then it should work...

I figured the problem. The instructions on that website are a bit wrong (i think because they might be referring to Mac)
This is how I got mine to work
You do not need to recreate any directories... this is simply what I did (after running the jailbreaker and all stuff, right at the point where you type iphoneinterface switch to these instructions - if you were getting the fileref 0 error or not seeing your ringtones):
type iphoneinterface
at the iPhone:/#
Type cd Library (L has to be capitalized)
then you'll see:
iPhone:/Library#
Type cd Ringtones (R has to be capitalized)
then you'll see
iPhone:/Library/Ringtones#
At this folder if you type ls you should see all the ringtones currently on the phone
Here you can then type
putfile /Library/Ringtones/WorldHoldOn.m4a (or whatever the name of your song is
)
And by the way, I have also uploaded some regular mp3 songs from my itunes and those work as well.
This is working perfectly for me!! yay!

edit - never mind, it works fine, I'm a retard
