GoPhone Canada
I got a gophone plan for the iPhone with a US number but am using the device in Canada.
Everything works great (aside from the phone), but I am surprised that I always have "No Service" - I figured that it would pick up the Rogers network like the people I know who signed up for the 2 year contract from here.
Every now and again (particularly on startup) I get a message something along the lines of "Activating with AT&T, this may take some time", but seeing as I never get service this will obviously never happen. I just dismiss the message and thats it.
This doesn't bother me so much as I don't intend actually using it as a phone at least until it gets unlocked
, but I was wondering if anyone else has the same experience? Does it need to be within range of an AT&T network for this step to complete?
Cheers

AT&T prepaid does not offer roaming in Canada. Postpaid only. I'm in Manhattan now and my prepaid iPhone account is working great, but back home in Ontario I get "No Service".

Same thing for me. I got the phone in Pittsburgh under the GoPhone plan, but I paid with my Canadian credit card (had to give a US address though). As soon as I landed in Canada, i get "No Service".. fine with me because I was going to take out the SIM card anyways to avoid roaming charges. The citywide wifi gets me internet access, but yeah it would be nice to be able to make calls too... i hope they unlock it soon
