Default [Gophone] Can you still sign up with Gophone through iTunes?

    Hey there.

I have an iPhone with a broken digitiser that needs to be returned to Apple, but of course they want an activated phone to let you do that. So the plan is to get it activated with GoPhone, get it replaced at an Apple Store, then cancel GoPhone. Easy, right?

In early February, for another phone, that worked well. Entered the fake SSN, signed up for the GoPhone service and paid $50 for it, got the phone replaced, cancelled GoPhone.

Anyway, a month and a bit later, I'm trying again and it doesn't work the same way. I go through the wizard, pick a 2-year-contract plan, enter my address details, then enter a fake SSN (99-999-5555). After that point it throws up a page saying "Accept AT&T Service Agreement", asking for me to consent to a 2 year agreement with AT&T. I'm scared to click continue.

Last time I entered the SSN it jumped to the page saying "Sorry, you don't have a high enough credit rating, how about GoPhone?" The page it did send me to indicates that Apple\AT&T think my credit rating is just fine even with the wrong SSN.

Did the process change recently, after February the 2nd when I did it the first time? Did anyone else successfully get GoPhone on their iPhone in the last couple weeks? Help would be appreciated!

No experience here? I would have thought there'd be more people out there who've done this for the reason of returning the phone to Apple.

I have read that there has been trouble with activating with GoPhone.

Try doing Hacktivation with something like iLiberty or iPlus or ZiPhone etc... then take it into the store. You wont get any cell reception, but at least give it a try If that doesnt trick the geniuses at apple store, just restore iPhone and you will be back to unactivated. Then maybe you could unlock and try GoPhone, or switch to T-Mobile

Trouble activating with GoPhone lately, you mean? As in after I activated the first one successfully?

I don't know what you mean in the second paragraph. The point is to get into Apple\AT&T's database, so when you go to the Apple store and they ask for your phone number, they can see it's a registered iPhone that has been signed up with AT&T and is therefore eligible for the warranty. How would unlocking it and using it with T-Mobile help?

I'm just saying if worst comes to worst and you can't activate with gophone and you don't want the 2 year AT&T plan you might as well unlock and use another provider. Either that or sell iPhone.

And there have been reports from Apple saying some gophone things are going strange. I live in New Zealand, so I don't know that much about AT&T etc, but is gophone a licenced iPhone plan? Like if you went into apple store and asked then to activate your iPhone on gophone, would they? If so, try that

I don't think you understand. The iPhone is in need of repair, and can't be used. I want to sign up with GoPhone as it is the easiest way of getting the iPhone on the Apple\AT&T database of activated iPhones, which is generally required for Apple to service or replace the phone when you take it to an Apple Store.

So unlocking is not a solution. I just need it to be signed up with an AT&T Gophone plan, and I'm not sure how to make it go to the right section to do that.

So I called AT&T, and they confirmed that the only way to get GoPhone is to fail the credit check. They weren't willing to offer me any way to get it without doing the credit check first, fake SSN or otherwise.

Also, I found a post on Apple Discussions that indicates in the last month or so AT&T put a SSN validator on their web form because of all the people entering in "999999" etc to get GoPhone plans. This would explain the issue.

Did everyone just.. stop having to get their jailbroken iPhones repaired in the last month? I can't see how I'm the only one having this issue of needing an iPhone repair yet having trouble getting on GoPhone.
