Default Google Voice push notifications for $1.99

    Hi all,

This is a quick tutorial on how to get Google Voice SMS and Voicemail Push notification to your iPhone. So far it's the cheapest way I know.
I don't have time to make screen shots but hopefully update this post later with more detail. If you have questions please send me a message.
It will require a little set-up and you'll have to order an APP from AppStore for $1.99.
OK enough talk, here it comes:

    Assumptions:
    1. I assume you already have Google voice account
    2. You may have GVMobile app installed on our phone (you can use this tutorial without it but then the whole process kinda makes no sense).
    3. Use the step that asks you to create a NEW Gmail account ONLY if you don't wan to combine you Google Voice messages with you Google Emails.

    Here are the steps:
    1. Login o your Google Voice account and in the setting menu make sure you're forwarding all you SMS and Voicemail messages to your Gmail Email account.
    2. Create a new Gmail account that will be solely used to receive your GV SMS and Voicemail messages (for reference lets call it: mygvinbox@gmail.com).
    - Once the account is created, log in to it and go to Setting menu.
    - Click on Filters and select Create New Filter.
    - In the "From:" text box enter the following without quotes "(-voice.google.com)"
    - Click the "Next" button
    - On the following screen select "Skip the inbox" and "Delete It" check boxes and click "Create Filter", then confirm settings if asked
    3. Log in to your Main Gmail account and open Settings menu
    - Click on Filters and select Create New Filter.
    - In the "From:" text box enter the following without quotes "voice.google.com"
    - Click the "Next" button
    - On the following screen select "Skip the inbox" and "Delete It" check boxes
    - Select "Forward To" check box and in the text field enter you other gmail address (E.G. mygvinbox@gmail.com)
    - and click "Create Filter", then confirm settings if asked
    4. Open iTunes and BUY the app called "GPush" current price $1.99
    - install the app to your iPhone
    - open the app and in the account info enter your GV Inbox account (E.G. mygvinbox@gmail.com) and password.
    - Submit your settings

    Results:
All the Google Voice SMS and Voicemail messages will be sent to your main Gmail address, Gmail filter will delete them and forward to your other Gmail account (mygvinbox@gmail.com) which due to a filter will never accept any email messages except ones from google voice. GPush will notify if you have a new message, therefore you will know to open your GVMobile app and check you messages. You can also use you mail Gmail account, but then you'll get a push notification anytime you've got an email, which defeats the purpose of this tutorial.
BTW you will need to log in to your new gmail account and clean it up sometines

    Have fun folks.

P.S. As long as GVMobile stays out of the AppStore and available only VIA Cydia it will not get native Push Notifications functionality as this would require using Apple servers that only available for approved AppStore apps.

Replace the $1.99 GPush with a free Google Push mailbox and you have the missing piece of the puzzle

Google Sync on your mobile phone

BTW, better to move this thread to the General Talk. Mods, anyone?

I have to use GPush because I already use my Exchange account for my work email and contacts and iPhone only allows one Exchange account per device.

But thank you for the advice, I'm sure it'll help a lot of folks.
