Oh, let him have his reward. If ebay buyers believe it, he deserves their money. And he probably just meant "first on eBay Australia" which it could well be, unless some have already been sold.

At least he's offering a genuine product and being more honest than some of them, eg, here's a quick scan of what's on offer on eBay Australia:

"UNLOCKED SIMPLY MEANS THE PHONE IS FULLY FUNCTIONAL WITHOUT THE PHONE FUNCTION"

"iPhone looking MP4 player, 4GB , FM, JPG, DivX"

"BRAND NEW HTC TOUCH PDA MOBILE ~ IPHONE SCROLL SCREEN"

"this phone will probley not reach australi til the end of this year and priced at around $1400"

"the phone has not been activated yet but is very ezy all you need is a copy of itunes of the internet ezy to download"

"CECT P168 is a fantastic mobile phone with similar looking and features as Apple Iphone. Why pay more for Apple, here is the one you could enjoy most of the features, Grab your self a high quality bargain without regret."

"iPhone, Victoria Personalised Number Plate, "IPHONE"" [Buy It Now: $5000]

When you enter the details to browse via GPRS on Vodafone, can you access ANY sites that you want? or only WAP enabled sites? I sent some questions to Vodafone customer support and they seemed to imply that their $1 for 5 minutes access to the "mobile internet" via GPRS was restricted to WAP sites?

If it really can browse the outside web then it's not a bad option given you can get a $49 cap plan which gives $310 value, that's a lot of 5 minute email/web checks (albeit slow over GPRS). Telstra has EDGE, but they charge like a wounded bull for it...

Yeah, ricochet, they like to think their Vodafone Live! is a walled garden - but you can browse anywhere.

I have a $79 cap and have never paid more than that, and I surf the net most nights and download emails every day.

I have a 3G sim from Vodafone though, so I don't know if I'll need to get a 2.5 sim from them or if it'll work with the TurboSIM method too. I know the hardware hack will be OK....but am unsure about Turbo.

Thanks for the info, they were pretty misleading in their answer to me. I pretty specifically asked if i could browse any sites i wanted, and the reply came back saying something like "not every site will have a WAP interface so you'll only be able to browse those" or similar.

Currently my work pays for my telstra connection, but I suspect if i got an iphone and started cranking up the EDGE usage then my bills would go through the roof and I'd be called in to explain myself ;-) so i was considering a $49 vodafone cap plan for iphone use (despite the woeful GPRS speeds, it's still good enough to check the odd email or google something to win a bet! Otherwise i'll find wi-fi coverage for serious browsing...) Sounds like it might be a good option, cheers
