    Default GeoHot's method restorable?

    Just curious, can you restore the iphone to a nothing-has-happened state to get apple's service if some problem happens.

    suppose you use the genius idea -- using needles instead of soldering, so Apple people won't see it has been hacked.

    If there is a new modem firmware in a future update it will be probably overwritten and the hack will be gone. Makes no sense trying restore now since the version number of modem firmware stays the same and so it will not be changed on the phone.

    Restoring the phone will inevitably restore the radio firmware, which will render the phone into a locked state again. If this happens you'll have to re-do the unlock procedure. In terms of software, the phone will be on its original/factory state + apple updates.

    As I said: the modem firmware version stays the same and thus is not overwritten.

    ... if you know the location of the bytes to change in the new modem firmware version. As described by geohot there's a different offset for different versions:
    3.12: (213740): 04 00 a0 e1 -> 00 00 a0 e3
    3.14: (215148): 04 00 a0 e1 -> 00 00 a0 e3
    So we can only wait and hope that there will be no change ...

    This is a good news. I was afraid till now to tweak the OS of my gunlocked phone, because if the OS bricks I have to restore.
