Folks with unlocked first gen iPhone not needing 3rd party, jailbreak, cydia & installer. Can just update and the phone remains activated and modem unlocked like in the last two updates.

I can confirm this with my first gen and I have asked several others to test with the same results. So it does look like Apple has forgoten the first gen and going to let us live in peace.

Yes I am using iTunes 8 on my mac. Last time I pawned my first gen iPhone was when 2.0 came out. Since then I have just been doing update. As I had not allot of need for 3rd party apps.

Some folks have said they are loosing there activation. Guess it all comes down to how clean and well your original activation & lockdown was for it to remain in 2.1

Can anyone else confirm this? Is it safe to update thru iTunes? I don't need 3rd party apps, either.

Yea works fine on Gen 1 phone (mine is a 16 GB via iTunes 8).

I'll try this in a minute as I do not use the Third Party Apps. Only question is, can we keep using the same patched MobileInstallation? I know you can access the Root of the iPhone drive use DriveAid (google it) without jailbreaking so I am not sure :s.

EDIT: Downloading the firmware via iTunes now. Here is my current status:

iPhone 2.0.2 QuickPwned on a mac.
Baseband is up to date
iTunes 8
Using patched MobileInstallation

Will let you know what happens!
I click Update in iTunes (I really hate losing my music... )
