    It remains unlocked and activated.

he's asking if the PATCHED mobileinstallation file still works, not whether it remains unlocked and activated.

It would probably be safe to assume the patched mobileinstallation file would be replaced with the default one and that all your cracked apps would fail to work unless there is confirmation otherwise.

    Confirmed on iPhone 3G

    Began with:
    iTunes 8
AT&T locked unit running on 2.0.2
Activated and Jailbroken using CFW made on PwnageTool 2.0.3.1
    Using GeveySIM 3G SIM solution

straight upgrade on iTunes to firmware 2.1..

    Result was
Activated 2.1 (even after multiple reboots)
    Baseband is now 02.11.07
SIM solution still working with 3G/GPS/Calls/SMS working.

    Good times...

It is replaced with original one, so h4x0r-ed apps does not work -- they just flash and phone backs to SpringBoard.

Cydia/Installer/any other non-AppStore apps are gone after update.

Noticed "Carrier" version on General -> Settings -> About.

And yes, phone is way faster than before. Signal is also better. Cheers to Apple -- although missing only Cycorder, I can live with the somewhat "stock" 1st gen iPhone.

Updated from an unlocked pwnded 2.0.2 iphone using only Itunes 8. No idea what any of you are talking about as far as patches and mobile installs and junk. I guess I have been a way for a few days.

Backup only took about 10 seconds. Applications seem to load much faster, and games run better. Haven't had enough time to test out they battery life yet. I'm still skeptical about it since I think they just turned the cpu clock speed back up to what it was in 1.1.4, but we will see.

As cool as some of the apps from cydia and installer are, I'm pretty sure a few of them were responsible for the slowdown on my phone. Ever since I restored and didn't use them a couple days ago my phone has ran great and even better since 2.1. Still pissed about no copy and paste but what can you do? The update was worth losing cydia to me at least...

    James.

EDIT: Downloading the firmware via iTunes now. Here is my current status:

iPhone 2.0.2 QuickPwned on a mac.
    Baseband is up to date
    iTunes 8
    Using patched MobileInstallation

Will let you know what happens!
I click Update in iTunes (I really hate losing my music... )

    James.
Can you give me a link to download DriveAid? I tried googling and all I get is chinese.

Plus, I heard that many ppl are facing lots of issues with updating.
I'm running 2.0.2 (not pwned) but jailbroken with quickpwn (no installer, no cydia).
I had updated from winpwned 2.0.1.
And I want to know if it's safe for me to update.

If I'm provided with driveaid and it does what you said it does, then I won't even be needing a jailbreak - because the only thing I want to do is replace the phone numbers template thing...

You just cannot in no way access the Root of the iPhone without jailbreaking it.
You can access the media partition with DiskAid without jailbreak, but absolutely not the root partition : that is why the jailbreak is all about!!!!

    Just my cents
