It's safe. But you have to buy a TurboSIM or hyper card. or just use it as a PDA..

The data that is replaced during the activation hack and jailbreak is completely replaced when you update mate. So no worries.

Anyone that has unlocked shouldn't upgrade as quoted all over the place in capital letters. Unless it's figured out how to revert the phone to its natural state. or apple release a firmware update that completely replaces everything on the phone.
