Default From friday iPhone on O2, what if you have iPhone and O2 already??

    Hey guys...

I was wondering.... Tomorrow the iPhone is coming out in UK under O2, with firmware 1.1.2, which from the description of the updates and fixes it says that you'll be able to activate the phone from whichever network the iPhone is supported.

Does this mean that if I update to 1.1.2 I will be able to activate my iPhone normally using iTunes? I already got a O2 contract, so I can just upgrade my contract during the activation, isn't that right?

Thanks a lot for your help for me to understand!

thats what i would think.. however im not sure how that would work... i think you are gonna have to virginize your phone if unlocked using anysim..and then try to activate it.. thats what i think.. however i could be totally wrong and only iphones with special IMEI's could be registered.. that would be something else

the thing is that no one really knows. there is a CHANCE that if you upgrade to 1.1.2 get itunes 7.5 and put in your O2 sim card itunes will happily activate you.

on the flip side there is a chance that you upgrade and it doesnt work because some where in there is some kinda of region setting and you end up with a brick, which MAYBE you could take to an apple store and be like "it doesnt work" but if they took one look at the serial number you would be toast.

if you want to be the guinea pig go ahead, everything is speculation and guessing right now. BUT there is only one firmware for the platform (could change, i doubt it though) so the scenario we are hoping for is a white list and you put your O2 sim in and it just doesnt complain.

Let me ask you in return: how naive are you?
Do you think in the US you can use the iPhone with ANY AT&T SIM card/contract? WRONG. It will be the same in Europe, so don't bother even thinking that you're going to get a "legally activated and your-operator locked" iPhone starting tomorrow because this ain't going to happen. Only phones with SPECIFIC SIM cards and contracts will work. Period.

Once iPhone is out in the UK. I hope that us peeps on O2 with an iPhone already will in the future only have to Jailbreak and Activate our phones every time a new firmware is released. We should not have to unlock it as we are already on O2.

How to get Visual Voicemail to work will be interesting... !
