Default Free space amount on 8GB after restore?

I had used winpwn on my 1st gen 8GB phone when pwning it with a customized 2.0.2 FW. I made the root partition 800MB (as all other sizes gave errors). What I want to know is that having restored the FW to 2.1 via iTunes 8 and then using quickpwn to jailbreak/unlock it and install Cydia/Installer - I noticed in General Settings it shows capacity is 7.1GB (No music/pics or videos are on the phone). Is this correct?

Is the 800MB partition still there? I would assume that a restore within iTunes would have removed this? I expected the free capacity to be around the 7.3GB mark. Yeah I know it's not a big difference but I just want to know where the space is going. Does the new 2.1 firmware take up a bit more space?
1st Gen. 8GB 2.0.2 Working on Vodafone (UK), Orange (UK), LUXGSM (Luxembourg) and Dialog GSM (Sri Lanka).

    iPhone flash memory: 8,119,896,064 B
    Root partition 500MB: 524,288,000 B
    --------------------------------------------- -
    Media partition: 7,595,608,064 B = 7.1 GB

Part of the confusion stems from terminology: hardware vendors (like Apple) tend to call a GB exactly 1 billion bytes, whereas software makers (like Apple) use the original definition where 1 GB = 1024 MB = 1024x1024 kB = 1024x1024x1024 B. So whereas Apple the hardware vendor sells you an 8 GB phone with 8 billion bytes of flash memory (plus a bonus 1.5%), Apple the software maker (in iTunes and in Settings... General... About) tells you you've got 7.56 GB of flash memory, or in your case, 7.1 GB "capacity" on the media partition.

Installing Cydia programs on a phone that has no internet connection: read this.

Editing binary .plist, .strings, .nib and .xib files:
    * on your computer: Windows tool / conversion website.
    * on your iPhone: convert those files in a terminal with plutil (installed with Erica Utilities) or edit them with iFile (Cydia links).
