Force older firmware install
My iPhone is currently being shipped from the USA to me and will arrive next weekend (brought from USA by a friend). Thing is I see rumors about the 1.1.1 firmware maybe arriving this week, which *might* disable the current unlock.
My question now is: the phone will probably come with a firmware < 1.0.2; is there some option in iTunes to have the phone upgrade to 1.0.2 and not 1.1.1 or whatever newer version *might* be available when the phone arrives? Or is there some manual way to upgrade the iPhone?
I know I might be worried about things which are not going to happen, but still would love to get an answer
Update: fixed spelling

I have the same doubt... I could find out you need the current .ipsw and the .ipsw.signature to be able to update to 1.0.2.
You have to click "restore" with the alt (on Mac) or shirt (on PC) button pressed and it will let you choose the firmware you want to use.
What i wasn't able to find out is how to have the .signature file without the iPhone. I'm also not sure if the .signature is the same for everyone or is generated based on specific computer/iPhone info.
Does anyone has more info about this?
sorry for my english, im not a native speaker
do the following
download iPhone Firmware 1.0.2 now at
(all in one line)
Put it on your desgtop. its a zip arcive, leave it that way
Upon arrival of the iphone, you dont know, wich fw is on.
start iTunes 7.4.1 on your Mac and hold home- and on/off-button on the iphone. connect mac and iphone and keep holding the buttons on the iphone.
the iphone boots in restore-mode, itunes opens up the restore dialog. release the two buttos on the iphone.
hold option-key on the mac and then press "restore" in iTunes. Dialog popps up asking for the firmware to use then. point to the archived version and you are set.
just in case apple aswell updates itunes: get 4.7.1 at
(all in one line)
after that do the unlock with today-tools and check in the forum for secure update procedure.
did that procedure sevral times, no problem
hope that helps

1. Download iphoneunlocktoolkit.exe from e.g. http://www.download25.com/install/ip...k-toolkit.html
2. Download iTunes 7.3.045 from http://www.oldapps.com/betasearch.ph...&sa=Search#859
B Next install iTunes, but do not run it. Plug the phone into the dock. If and wait a bit. If iTunes starts, quit it and make sure all Apple software like itunes, ituneshelper, modebiledeviceserver etc are closed through the task manager).
C Run iphoneunlocktoolkit.exe
D iphone unlock will tell you what to do next.
E Disconnect your phone from the dock and start iTunes, then plug the phone back in. You should have bypassed activation now and be able to use the phone in WiFi mode, etc (note: the phone is not unlocked).
After this I downloaded all firmware versions. I first upgraded from 1.0 to 1.0.1 by clicking shift-restore in the summary iphone tab in itunes. This worked well. You will see the following on the screen:
Preparing iPhone for restore
Waiting for iphone
Preparing iphone software for restore
restoring iphone software
verifying iphone software
veryfying iphone restore
restoring iphone firmware
Be patient, depending whether the update works or not, it can take 5-10minutes to complete the process. Be patient, don't take the phone out of the dock, no matter what.
Then I upgraded from 1.01 to 1.02 by "check for update". In this way I now also have the iPhone1,1_1.0.2_1C25_to_1C28_Update.ipsw on my phone. I already had the following files:
iPhone1,1_1.0.2_1A543a_to_1C28_Update.ipsw (from a previous update from 1.0 to 1.0.2 with a different phone)
I then tried to restore back to 1.0 from either 1.0.1 or 1.0.2 which didn't work in either case (you will get the yellow triangle, but don't panic. Leave the phone in the dock and restore to either the 1.0.1_1C25_Restore.ipsw or 1_1.0.2_1C28_Restore.ipsw image. Both will work.
Also make sure to leave your (non-working) sim card in the phone during all of this.
Hope this is useful for someone. I am currently back at 1.0.2 (you can't get back to 1.0 anymore if you grade to 1.0.1 or 1.0.2).
I am windows user I have downloaded every thing for unlocking Iphone, I m just wondering where to safe firmware 1.0.2 in which folder, I'll get my iphone any time this week so I wanna save current firmware to prevent any update.
Can I save the 1.0.2 firmware and keep my PC unplug from internet & do unlock with out any problem?
yes just save it on the desktop, then hold down shift (pc) ,option(Mac) when you click restore it will let you choose the file. follow this guide it is the simplest

Does it get flashed along with the firmware upgrade, or does it remain the same? Assuming that it remains the same, you need to downgrade the BB before you can downgrade the FM and then re-apply the firmware that you want to install which is consistent with the BB.
