[Firmware] Difference between Upgrading and Restoring ?

whats the difference between updating from exaplme 1.2 to 1.4 on itunes and restoring with 1.4 firmware file?

Upgrade will only upgrade the firmware while restore will basically apply all the factory settings and all your info will be lost.

Hope it makes sense

First the firmware is not 1.2 or 1.4 but 1.1.2 or 1.1.4

Restore will wipe all the data in the phone similar to factory setting and reinstall the system from scratch.

Update will preserve your data (musics, videos, contacts, pictures...) and just update the Operating System of the iPhone.

And oh yeah, duck9000 was faster.

oh ok now i see, so if i want to change my firmware from 1.1.2 to 1.1.4 can i upgrade using itunes to 1.1.4 and then unlocking it with iplus?

Noo rather restore if you are planning to jailbreak and unlock!!

yes you can upgrade via itunes to 1.1.4 and use iplus but i recommend a restore after upgrading as having a clean phone sometimes hleps with the process
