Don't do it zenmonkey. Wait for the dev-team's release and learn from my mistake.

    * If I update to 2.0 will this mean that I will be able to use it with any Belgian operator? (will they be so stupid?)
    * Or will there be a distinction between 1.1 and 1.2 on this specific matter?
    Update:

Tried to upgrade a iPhone 1.1 to firmware 2.0
(here in belgium you can use the iPhone now with any carrier)
    Upgrade went as a charm

I wanted to test the possibility to use a first gen iPhone (with the new firmware) with a Belgian operator

    This does not work

Anyhow, going to downgrade back to 1.1.4 now

This is useful information for first gen iPhones in the new iPhone countries where the 3G is released and where there is no carrier restriction (Belgium, Italy, France, ...)

    I'm with a 1.1.4 first gen
I've talk with a Telecom Italia Mobile assistant and seems that the new phone is not locked on Tim, but we can switch to Voda IT simply changing sim...
But if the 2.0 ipsw image is the same for all, here in Italy we can upgrade and the new baseband is programmed, for example, to leave access to Italian operators and lock UK operators?

I am not sure how this operator lock is performed but the 3G iPhone bought in Belgium is working with any operator.

The 2.0 firmware for the first generation iPhone is not the same as the 2.0 firmware for the 3G iPhone. I am pretty sure that upgrading your 1.1.4 to 2.0 firmware will leave you with an unusuable iPhone ... I did it and I had to downgrade back to 1.1.4 (which was hell).
