is there a difference what iTunes version was used?
If it was jailbreaked (not in "jail")?
If it was activated when update was issued? (is deactivation good to do before update?)

just on the updates the firmware covered, does anyone know if they've address the internaltional number format issue where it doesnt read numbers correctly, and if it brings MMS capabilities?

I was thinking this as well. That uses actual iTunes interface, so I'm suspecting it would work.

I have, and it reports an error after the firmware package is extracted. So I dont see a way around this at all.

OK so it doesn't self replicate but it still targets and destroys iPhones so they can't even be used with AT&T. This is unacceptable.

The update has only been out a few hours now - and it look alot longer initally then a few hrs to break the locks on it. BUT now we're initally past that step I wouldnt expect it to take as long this time round giving the understanding the dev guys have of the phones software and how it works
Lets just wait and see what they come up with and in the mean time leave the virus squabble at bay for the time being, its not going to solve the issue but rather make it worse
Which is exactly what apple wants, for us all to be panicing - let's work together on this as a group rather then accusing apple. sure it sucks what they've done / may not have done, but the best way to win this war is to crack it, not panic
I've got complete faith in the dev team and it's simply just a matter of time
Good points. I'm not freaking out and will wait for the geniuses that are the DEV team to come thru again with flying colors. I only mention the virus thing because we should be pissed at Apple. They are targeting Apple users with an unlock to render our expensive phones useless even on AT&T. Virus or not, this is harmful without a doubt and should be illegal. Remove our unlock with a FW wipe, ok I understand that. Leave me with a paperweight so I can't use it on AT&T and that's just wrong on so many levels.

You should have known better. I hope you have a backup until the fix comes out. I don't get why people jump the gun before finding if it works first. We all know that SOOOO many accomplished hackers are working on it so why chance it with yours?

why arer you pissed at apple, or think you should be, you broke it to make it work for you, they are just fixing it to their specs
its like you buy a car and tune up the ECU to get it faster (under warranty)
take it back to the factory to have the ECU read for errors and tune the car and it breaks teh ECU
who told you to go mucking around with it
i know this differs as its "your' phone and you can do with it as you plz
but you knew hacking it voided any warranty or guaranty to be working with future updates
chill out..

All i want to know is:
Does AppTapp still work? Do 3rd party apps still work? My phone is NOT unlocked, i'm not concerned with that. But i've run AppTapp and a dozen or more 3rd party apps. In the past iTunes restores your phone and then you just run AppTapp again. Does that still work?

I am chill. But its more like taking your ECU (have no cluewhat that is) and the shop totally destorys your car. Not just removed the ECU, but made it so you can't ever use your car again. It is perfectly legal to unlock a phone. If they want to relock the phone, fine, but dont make my phone useless. That's why we should be upset. We should at least have the option to join AT&T. Any, enough of this, I'm done. Dev team will fix, but in the mean time apple sux.
UPDATE Gizmodo reports they did it wrong and that AT&T cards WILL work after the new update even on a phone previously unlocked.
ANOTHER update Gizmodo id the flip flop of the mod world, now says AT&T cards DONT work.
