Default Firmware 1.1.1 Out of box.... What now?

    Hey,

I recieved my iPhone and it had firmware 1.1.1 on it. Im not sure whether I should downgrade it for now, whilst the solution to unlock 1.1.1 is solved or whether to continue to use it as a paper weight?

Will downgrading it damage the phone in any way or jeopardize it of being unlock with 1.1.1 in the future, once a solution has been released?

If it was downgraded to 1.0.2, and if I were to restore it back to 1.1.1, would it reset the activation? and therefore would have to be activated again ( like how I got it in the first place, out of the box).

    Thanks, Chris

I believe you can activate FW 1.1.1 now and add 3rd party apps but can not fully unlock it...yet. So it's your choice, do you want to use it as an iPod/internet now or are you comfortable with waiting?
The dev team seems to be fairly speedy so hopefully we'll have a nice unlock app by the time Leopard hits?

I'm not sure how much locked iPhones go for so you should check up on that and see if you would get most of your money back by selling it or returning it and suffering the 10% restock fee.
Not sure where you are located but have you tried a local Apple Store or AT&T store to see if they have <Week 38 iPhones?
Right now it seems the demand for 1.0.2. is fairly high so you'd end up paying close to $100 more than a new iPhone.

    Hey,

Just bought one. And it is week 29. Is that ok? what firmware version do you think it has.

I'll try and sell my other one to someone who wants to use AT&T. Its not really a brick because its new out the box with 1.1.1

Wow week 29? Just make sure you don't have the "negative black screen" issues. Week 29 will most likely (99%) have firmware 1.0.2. Nice find! Where did you buy it at? Apple or AT&T?

On your iPhone, go to AppleServedUp.com. This tests for dead pixels and the negative black screen issue.

Tough to say, its a hit or miss. I believe the LCD screens got better after Week 34. Did you purchase a 4GB or 8GB?
