The guy has told you exactly what you need to know. How to do the things he has suggested can be found by searching around. IE by typing DFU mode iphone in google.
A little self help my friend, trust me, you'll learn more by finding the answers yourself. I play around with things I shouldn't and am always having to learn how to fix them.
Google is your friend

Thanks Davy,
That is actually what I ended up doing (although I was a little scared since that's part of why I got into this mess int he first place - searching and following instructions that I really didn't understand, then messing it up!)
Maybe I should give myself a little credit at least since I did manage to get my phone unlocked by myself even if I didn't really understand what I was doing. I just need to be a whole lot more careful w/ the ftp thing!
You all are THE BEST! Thank you so much! I was gray last night by the time I went to sleep and tossed and turned all night at the thought that I ruined my iphone!

I know exactly how you feel. I find myself reading guides I only partly understand and worrying like mad that i'm gonna screw things up.
I think I was one of the first people to end up with a 3.8 bootloader on my phone, that was so nasty. I felt sick to my stomache, couldn't sleep.....i could have cried. I finally plucked up the courage to testpoint it back to 3.9. What I can say is that Google helped me get through it all.
Well done for getting things sorted, dont it feel great when you realise that you screwed it up but managed to fix it with little or no help.
Peace
