Default Fido Name Display on OOB 1.1.2 using Stealth SIM

    Hi,

I have noticed that the fido name display is not working on iphone 1.1.2. does iphone support the name display feature? can anyone in canada using fido confirm that their iphone displays name of phone numbers not in addressbook? If yes then what FW version are using and did u tweak anything to get the name display?

    Thanks

are you talking about caller ID or a feature of the phone? because everything phone related works fine on my fido, i do not subscribe to caller id so i dont know if it works.

    not the caller id

the name display feature which shows the name of the caller even if its not in your contacts addressbook. its not showing the name of the caller instead it just shows the caller id.

This is fixed by a file named AppSupport, it should be easy to find it somewhere in the forum.

The Fido and Rogers networks are the only networks worldwide to have this feature, which shows the NAME information on the call ID, ie: if the phone line is registered to JOHN SMITH, you will see JOHN SMITH appear on the Fido handset, even if his name is not in your phonebook, much like a landline call display set would have.

Unfortunately, since Fido and Rogers are the only networks to support it, Apple has not included the capabilities for this service in the iPhone, which you will find is the case for most phones purchased abroad working on Fido. For example: I have a Motorola K1 purchased from Fido which shows the name display, but a K1 purchased in Europe (exactly the same phone) which does not. I had to update the software of the phone to the Fido firmware to make it show up, but it seems that Apple has not yet implemented that.

wow.. i cant believe canadians are first at something lol...i used to have that feature as a promotion on my old nokia phone its actually a pretty cool feature to have.. however i dont have it anymore in my iphone so i couldnt tell u if it works on it.. but i guess that it doesnt..
btw this is all for rogers customers... i spoke to someone high up in rogers today.. well not high high up.. but higher than regular customer service...and he claimed that the iphone wont be here for another while... he wasnt allowed to say what are the reasons..but he did mention that rogers and apple cannot agree on a few things on the plan.. and he made it seem that it wasnt even the data part...and supposedly unlimited data plan should be in in the next few months since bell just got an unlimited data plan if u sign up for 3 years...

i guess the disagreement will be mostly on the revenue sharing model!!! apple wants more money for their iphone...

the name display feature used to work on my other phone (nokia 6230) which wasnt even fido i bought it from pakistan i never updated the firmware and its not even on the fido handset list. still it showed the names of random people who called me.

i think i am better off turning off the name display feature for now...
