Why was I thinking this seemed too good to be true... If AT&T wants 20 bucks for unlimited data, how could Fido want just 7...? It's not like Canadians can be innovative and competitive, I guess... Assholes... Oh well, back to skimping on bandwidth and checking the usage non-stop... Well, at least for now I hope this 4 months unlimited surfing still applies to all handsets ($18 value pack). Anyone know if after that we could still use the 12MB/$10 plan for which bunch of us have signed up for? I understand Fido is bound by aggreement to honor this for us, ain't they?

By the way, I think this is paving the way and testing the ground for official release of iPhone in Canada.... Something had to be done to the data plans in order for Rogers to sign up with Apple. I bet in a couple of months we'll see the iPhone here. Data issue has been resolved at last...

Thinking about selling my phone if otherwise we'll be locked out of the unlimited data plan. I gather 1.1.2 OTB + StealthSim will still be a much wanted product worldwide, due to the impossibility of hactivating the 1.1.3s. So, I might become a Rogers customer and 'legitimate' Rogers iPhone owner in the end... LOL

Dude! If WAP is Rogers's idea of the Web (or Internet surfing as they call it), then if we follow the trend that happened in the rest of the world, we should hopefully have a real data plan in about 10 years.

Wow that sucks that Fido has now changed thier package aswell, it was 12mb which is great for just doing email and some very light surfing on iphone.

I would gladly pay 20 bucks for unlimited Data I have the Data Plan with Rogers is terrible I am going to cancel it. I tried it for 3 months it was 10MB (I think) for $25.00
I was over every single month and I barley used it. Rogers Data is a rip off because there is only one GSM provider so there zero competition.

so say if you do spoof the imei, can you use these wap plans to load normal sites , or will it block regular sites and just allow the wap sites?

ok just called fido and they told me you DON't need a fido phone to add on this unlimited plan. I asked the girl 3 times even told her what exactly I was doing...hell I even over heard her asking another operator if it was okay to use a non-fido phone. All yes!
I had her ad a note to my account and got her name so that if I got charged .5 per kb I had something to refer back to.

So she said its a $7 unlimited "surfing" plan. So now I have this wap unlimited plan to try for a day or two to see if it works.

Any suggestions?

P.S. I set up my edge settings:

APN: wap.fido.ca
Username: fido
Password: fido

Using this method I don't get the edge can't connect screen, it just never connects to a website.

APN: internet.fido.ca
Username: fido
Password: fido

Using this method I connect via edge right away. HOWEVER, I'm pretty sure that because i'm using internet.fido.ca that I'm being charged by the kb and no longer partof the wap $7 unlimited plan.

I'm going to call tomorrow to see if I have any per kb billing or was it under my wap unlimited plan.
