Question Factory Unlocked iphone 3gs Warranty?

    Hi,

My buddy bought me an factory unlocked iphone from hong kong.

I'm hearing things about how apple warranty won't service factory unlocked iphones here in the U.S. and that I would have to ship it out to apple in hong kong to get it fixed through warranty.

So, I called apple's tech support yesterday and the guy I got told me that, if I searched around on the internet on this question that I could find a way to get around this issue and get apple in the U.S. to service the iphone.

I asked him to explain in better detail on how to get this info, he again said "There is a way to get around this issue if you look on the net, because if you were to ship it out to hong kong to get serviced it won't be worth it 'cause of shipping, and I know this from other customers telling me they did this". Thats all he said! I think he can't get to much info out on this issue cause of "reasons". I think thats why he didn't give to many details.

But he did give some key words, search the internet and shipping costing to much.

I trying to figure this out and need some peeps with big brains to help me!!

    Thanks.

Applecare is the solution I believe. You kind of have to "plan in advance" a bit. I have read the terms and conditions for the standard warranty and it only covers the region where the iPhone should be sold.

However, I think that if you ring up and say that you have bough Applecare and have moved to another country, then they can update your applecare for that country.

This way both sides win. Apple gets a bit extra for Applecare and you get a two year warranty in your home country.

This is just a theory, I plan on testing it soon (have an Australian factory unlocked phone but live in Norway)
