Error 1603 - Cannot restore modded iphone. Please help!!??

I accidently clicked upgrade to firmware 1.0.1. (phone has been unlocked using the 'first 10 steps' (from hacktheiphone.com) and the prep for non-at&t sims.

Now while the iphone is restoring in itunes I keep getting an error message stating 'an unknown error has occured (1603).

I am really freaking out. I'm not a complete novice on computers, but I'm very much stuck at the moment. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

plug your phone to your computer. load itunes. click restore. done.

Hi mate,

That's what I have done at least 10 times. While it says preparing the iphone i get the 1603 msg.

has anyone who done the 10 steps mod had this problem?

I don't know what to do. The iphone is stuck in safe mode with the exclamation mark and says connect to itunes.

Try these..

1) Restart your computer
2) Try another USB port
3) Try another computer (try Mac if you are on PC, or other way)
4) Remove SIM card and connect to iTunes and try to restore

Good work! I restored it on my girlfriend's mac.

The problem now is that I have the new firmware. I can't run jailbreak-- when I try from the prompt I get the msg 'usbmuxlistenercreate'

Have I ruined my chances ever using this phone? can I restore back to 1.0.0?

No need to revert, you will be glad you updated to 1.0.1.
Try the latest iFuntastic, you can easily jailbreak 1.0.1 with it. Put SSH server on it as soon as you can so you don't have bother with jailbreak anymore (you can't do it with iFuntastic but there are many guides out there).

Sounds like a Windows type error, try starting iTunes and stopping it again, as well try to kill appledevice that might be running.

There has not been a proven method at downgrading yet. Don't feel bad though, IMHO it won't matter anyway. If the "real" unlock only works with 1.0 then that will suck badly, especially when apple adds iChat and all the other goodies. TurboSim method works with 1.0.1. so your not lost.
