Hey please help me! my friend shipped me a phone that was his and when i gotten the iphone i went through settings and deleted all the information off of it! and when i plugg it to my computer it doesnt show up also i cant restore any back up files because the iphone was his. and i dont have his back up files ...ever since i erased my back up files on the iphone its been stuck in recovery mode i thnk (because it shows the ipod usb and an arrow pointing up to the itunes symbol!

can someone help me get out of this problem please

Buddy dont worry the issue can be solved but you need to give more details about your iphone.

1) This is expected behavior. I really don't understand why people don't get that 'Erase all content and settings' really does erase ALL CONTENT and ALL SETTINGS, including your iOS firmware. You really should not have done this. In most cases there are a hundred easier and less impacting ways to do the same.
2) As tapan said, we will need to know what model device you have in order to assist in what your (most likely extremely limited) options are at this point to restore a working iOS on the device.
3) Use TinyUmbrella to determine if your friend stored any of the SHSH files like he should have. If you're using an iPhone 4 and he didn't, you're not going to like the answer we end up giving, so let's hope that you're running a 3GS or that he did back up his SHSH files.

As tapan asked, let us know the following and we'll be able to assist:

1) iPhone Model Number + Model Name
2) Unlocked / Locked (Are you using it on a carrier that sells it or an an alternate carrier)
2a) If you require an unlock, we'll want your Modem Firmware revision as well.
3) iPhone 3GS Only: Bootrom version.

I'm sure this has been covered somewhere - but having trouble finding the definitive answer. Have an iphone 3g ver 3.1.2 BB 5.11.07. Its been jailbroken with blackrain and unlocked with ultrasnow. Im wanting to sell this as a jailbroken/ulocked phone with no personal data on it. ive deleted the mail accounts but still have many contacts and other apps that have been personalized. Is there a tutorial for this? Can I restore to factory defaults and easily re-jailbreak and unlock? SHSH blobs from 4.0 and beyond are saved. Thanks for the info.

Yes - you could safely use "erase all content and settings" - we don't normally recommend it (because it wipes the OS and many don't have correct SHSH to restore again)

In your case, as long as you are prepared and careful - you can simply "erase all content and settings" - be sure to have the phone on charge while you do this as it can take 2-3 hours on a 3G iPhone.

Then shift-click and restore 3.1.2 - jailbreak with redsn0w, install ultrasn0w and you are set to sell it.
