    Default Enable visual vmail for unofficially activated prepaid?

    I was looking into disabling EDGE to get rid of the "$0.01" transaction messages when I'm at home on WiFi and noticed in the preferences.plist file that there are two different APNs listed.

    The first:
    Code:
                                    <dict>
                                            <key>apn</key>
                                            <string>wap.cingular</string>
                                            <key>password</key>
                                            <string>CINGULAR1</string>
                                            <key>username</key>
                                            <string>WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM</string>
                                    </dict>
    Looks like the one for EDGE... But there's a second that looks like this on my phone:
    Code:
                                    <dict>
                                            <key>apn</key>
                                            <string>acds.voicemail</string>
                                            <key>password</key>
                                            <string></string>
                                            <key>username</key>
                                            <string></string>
                                    </dict>
    I was just wondering what that entry looks like on someone's phone with the visual vmail enabled? do you think if I made mine look the same it might enable the vvmail feaature?

    thanx,
    skwasha

    Well, I can't speak for my own settings at this point, as my phone has been through too many restores since it last spoke with an AT&T tower (I normally reside in Canada), so my setting has not yet otherwise been initialized.

    However, I'm signed up for a GoPhone iPhone plan, and visual voicemail works fine when I'm down within AT&T coverage. Are you using your old pre-paid phone plan (ie, you used an existing SIM rather than changing to an iPhone-specific GoPhone plan)?

    Personally, I suspect that there would be something AT&T would have to provision on their end for visual voicemail to be available... The APN only defines the path to the visual voicemail server, and I somehow doubt that AT&T is putting everybody's voicemail on that new server. In fact, as I understand it you lose your existing voicemail when you switch to visual voicemail, which implies that they're deleting your old visual voicemail box and re-provisioning it elsewhere.

    It's a feature of AT&T's network. Apple and AT&T worked on it together. No one else has it implemented yet, but it remains to be seen whether the European launch partners get it.

    By the way, you do know you can disable EDGE by entering something like "abc.xyz" in:
    Settings > General > Network > EDGE
    without having to modify a .plist.

    Hmm... I'd still be curious to see what an "official" iPhone subscriber has in that APN entry.

    I am using a non-Apple/ATT GoPhone SIM. So, I'm wondering if it's as simple as you just need the correct user/pass (which maybe you get at activation) for the phone to check for the vmails and process them.

    Under settings->general->network I only have VPN and Wi-Fi as options... (version 1.0.2 manually activated)

    Anyone? I just wanna know if it's got a standard user/pass or not.
