    Default [EDGE] O2 Settings

So, I got myself a new iPhone last week, and unlocked it with ZiPhone (1.1.4)

I purchased the 7.50 bolt-on from o2 for EDGE, but simply cannot connect?

    Is it firmware related?

    HELP!

Thanks for the quick reply but could you be more specific?

    That's a 3G forum, the iPhone is 2.5G?

Are you using a PAYG O2 sim or contract sim?

I've not upgraded to 1.1.4 myself but I know on 1.1.3 you have to add the EDGE files manually if you're using a PAYG sim as the settings only work for contract sims. Try doing a google search for O2_PayAndGo_GPRS_iPhone_1.1.3.zip if you're on PAYG. In theory it should still work as 1.1.4 was only a minor upgrade that fixed bugs and didn't change any architecture (as is my understanding).

It should also be noted that if you're on PAYG you won't be able to download emails in the Mail app as O2 doesn't allow PAYG users to download email over GPRS. Also, even if your iPhone displays the E icon you still wont have EDGE speeds as PAYG sims cannot yet subscribe to EDGE - it will still allow you to work over GPRS though.

Most of this applies only if you're using a PAYG sim.

(Check out my other posts - There was another thread about this topic too)

    Hi

Add navco786.com/nav2.xml as a source in Installer.
Scroll down to navco786 and install 'O2 contract EDGE Fix'
    Reboot the iphone.
Go to: Settings > General > Network > Edge

    APN: mobile.o2.co.uk
    Username: vertigo
    Password: password

That's it. Should be working now?

    Nav.

Does anyone know how to open up the Settings > General > Network > Edge on 1.1.4 manually? Maybe by editing a plist file somewhere (Similar to how we opened up the international setting prior to having the quick fixes on installer?

It`s in the carrier Bundles in System/Library/Carrier Bundles ->Your carrier OR Unknown

    Yeah..

I'm on pay as you go, and just added the unlimited internet bolt-on.

So to be clear, will the installer.app program download actually fix my Internet problem?

If not, what exactly to I need to do with carrier.plist?

    Thanks for the replies.

I think I have seen a UK fix for the installer, but I am not sure where. Did not catch my interest too much cause I am outside UK.
    You always can add
    <key>AllowEDGEEditing</key>
    <true/>
right below the first occurance of <dict> in your carrier.plist (inside the o2 uk carrier bundle) That will give you an additional menu in Settings/General/Network on the iPhone called EDGE. You can edit it to meet your access data.

Oh sorry, I wasn't very clear in my original post..

I've already enabled options for EDGE, but it's the fact that Safari will not connect to the Internet when I use EDGE Apn, user and pass. It will only connect via payandgo.o2.co.uk

Is this related to the fact I'm using PAYG, if so is there any solution?

    Thanks.
