I don't have edge in my plan, I don't use it. But it still appears next to my carrier name. It really bothers me and I want to make it dissapear. I can turn it off with Services but it just turns on again.

the icon is always there to let you know it is availible. it changes to just a square when only GPRS is around. just clear out your edge setting or edit the .plist so it cant be used.

So far none of the alternate "settings" programs are able to permanently disable EDGE.

Even blanking the APN data will not remove it.

Sounds that Apple missed the point of the EDGE signaling: it should mean "I am connected and authenticated". Instead it just displays the "availability" or not of EDGE (or GPRS).

The reason for this is that Apple and the iPhone design assume that all iPhones plans are "all you can eat" EDGE connections.

They have also missed the point on the GPRS icon. They assumed GPRS is the "absence" of EDGE, so when only GPRS is available, it shows a "square". The correct icon should be a "G".

Just replace the icon with one of the many solutions out there. Customize or something else. Just.. replace it with a transparent one. Blank. Voila.

I noticed that when upgrading to 1.1.3 It used to stay on "E" all the time with previous versions.

it still shows the E when the settings are wrong, i just tried it on mine. and it cant use edge, so just try and open weather and it wont load and you will be fine then.
