Default E-Plus software needed in Germany? Installer.app also not working

    Hi,

I have an unlocked 1.1.2 ootb upgraded to 1.1.3 iphone that is using an e-plus pre-paid card in germany. I want to sign an e-plus contract with internet and phone flat rate. The phone works fine but i can't get to the internet. People at the e-plus store told me there's a special software I need to download so i can use their umts network (even though it will only be EDGE fast since that's what the iphone is only capable of right now). I've looked everywhere and can't find anything. Since i don't speak german, i'm probably also limited in my search.

Another issue that i'm not sure if related or not. I have installer.app on the iphone when i u-,a-,j- from ziphone 2.4 and it has all the packages, except i can't install any of them because it keeps saying "package download failed: can't find host!" I don't know if this is because i don't have internet so that's why it can't install. I even tried to manually change the source of Ste Packaging to http://repo.smxy.org/iphone-apps/ but even that doesn't work. I'm not sure if the two issues are related (i.e. can't access internet b/c don't have BSD subsystem installed, or can't install BSD subsystem b/c can't access internet?)

I don't have wi-fi at home and it's not easily findable in germany so i don't know anywhere i can test out the internet (unless i go to starbucks and pay 10euros an hour). I also don't want to sign an e-plus contract unless i know for sure that the internet will work.

    Please help!!!!

If you wanna use Installer and install packages like BSD Subsystem (recommended if you wanna use other apps). Installer will need internet connection. Cause e-plus does not offer EDGE you will use GPRS on the iPhone with a contract. Cause tahts way slow, wont be fun to install stuff, browser the internet, only email is ok with that.
You defenitely need wifi at home or in another place if you wanna heavy use installer.app and so ion.

Thanks Volkspost! But I see that you are also using O2's GPRS on your iphone, so it must be slow as well? I've seen youtube videos with people using e-plus to surf internet and i don't think it was that slow. But my base question is, how can i even use GPRS when i insert the new e-plus (or O2 or vodafone, etc) and there's mobile service but no internet service? Do i need to install a software from somewhere that will allow me to access gprs with a non-apple supported network?

No, check "Settings/General/Network on the iPhone, there should be a button labeled EDGE, tap it. There are three fields apn, username and password.

    Check here
    http://www.taniwha.org.uk/gprs.html
and look for E-Plus Germany. The site is usually well maintained so
    apn:internet.eplus.de
    user: eplus
    password: gprs
should do. If not, tray to find it on eplus webpage or give em a call and ask.

At o2 Germany the umts settings are valid for gprs aswell, (as long as you own a newer simcard)

I think that's my problem. I've seen posts where people are saying to change the EDGE settings. I don't see an EDGE button when i click on Settings/General/Network, i only see VPN and it has server, address, etc. etc. when i tap on the VPN button (i think that's for setting up some network with your office or school) and wi-fi on/off. Do you know how i can get the iphone to show EDGE? again, i can't really install anything because i don't have wifi readily available anywhere (might have to resort going to starbucks this weekend). Do i need to insert a simcard that's internet capable (i.e. e-plus card that's capable of accessing their UMTS/GPRS network)? Then will the EDGE button show up? Please help!
