I've done some searching but with the masses of results couldn't find anything relevant.

I'm looking to downgrade my iPhone 3G's OS from 3.1 to 3.0.1 (or 3.0). I don't need to unlock it or jailbreak it, so I'm fine with the baseband remaining the same. Long story, but I'll actually be upgrading it back to 3.1 shortly.

Is this possible yet? I have access to iTunes 9 (preferable) or iTunes 8.2. No data recovery is necessary.

Not possible right now. Possibly in the near future. Meanwhile, enjoy your 3.1 3GS :p

I think you misunderstood. I have an iPhone 3G, not a 3GS. I said "iPhone 3G's OS" not "iPhone 3GS OS"

It is definitely possible to downgrade a 3G or 2G from 3.1 to 3.0.x there are guides on the net for this. Generally it is straightforward andthe most tricky part is using iRecovery to push the iPhone out of recovery mode after the downgrade.

it is generally not possible to downgrade a 3GS to 3.0 from 3.1 unless you have saved your ecid shsh first

for both 3G and 3GS it is not possible to downgrade baseband from the version included with 3.1
