Default Downgrade from 1.1.1 to 1.0.2 *IS* possible!

This is from the dev team wiki. I have not tried it, but people who already have bricked 1.1.1 should try this and confirm please. This is a HUGE breakthrough, go DevTeam!!

First, download the iPhone1,1_1.0.2_1C28_Restore.ipsw from Apple. Then connect phone to dock, and hold down home button and power button for about 10 seconds until phone turns off. Now release the power button but continue holding the home button. After about 10 seconds the computer will detect the iphone in restore mode, and itunes should tell that the phone needs to be restored. Hold down SHIFT key (Windows) or ALT-key (Mac) when clicking the Restore button, and select the file you downloaded previously. Let the restore complete and ignore the error at the end. Now your phone should show a rectangle, but don't worry about it. Run AppTap to jailbreak your phone - it will fix it even though you get errors. When you are at the activation screen, you can start the unlock like normal.

Anyone tried this yet? If it works, we have some hope for people who now get 1.1.1 sets from Apple stores.

Seems like several people have tried this in the other thread with mixed success, atleast to the point of being able to get inside the phone. I dont think they are all the way working just yet but seem very close.

your forgeting that you need to refash the modem firmware as you will be left with the new modem firware. Please update this thread when you find out how to either erase the new modem firmware or force the 1.0.2 firmware to flash

I am assuming that folks who got to this point have already tried the bbupdater -e *.eep -f *.fls command with the old baseband images, and that has failed..?

The question I have...is if you have a legit and activated sim card for AT&T, can you do the following.

    1. Start with a 1.0.2 unlocked iPhone
    2. Upgrade to 1.1.1 which "bricks" your phone.
    3. Downgrade to 1.0.2 using the new method.
    4. Activate the phone after jailbreaking it.
    5. Reupgrade to 1.1.1 as a legit phone.

I hacked my phone (even though I have a legit at&t contract), and right now I just want to have version 1.1.1 with the real baseband.

I was kind of worried that I'd never get that, but now it sounds like there is hope.

I can say that there is definetely mixed sucess on this cause I tried this on another phone and when iTunes begin to restore (after selecting the 1.02 file) it extracts it then right before it starts it gives an Error code of 1.

    This is not working!
Once I get to apptapp it attempts to do some stuff and then it says unable to complete or something.
